10 content creation lessons to help you get started

Content has been king for many many years since blogging first came out in 1999.

It certainly has evolved and taken many shapes and forms and styles. As many of you might know I started my content journey  in the fall of 2020 and I create both written and video content on a couple of different platforms.

Just to kind give you some idea…on Linkedin alone, my posts have reached 1.9 million+ impressions in just the last 90 days. 🤯

Linkedin analytics

And we no reached 10K LinkedIn fam! It is a special milestone for me because I have also recently accepted the Head of Product Role at a Fintech company.

But well this newsletter edition won’t be much about what types of content to get started. But leave me a comment on this post if you would like me to dive deeper into the nuances of content creation from a tech products standpoint.

BUT 10 lessons that are close to my heart and I wish I had understood when I was getting started.

1️⃣ Don’t overthink, rather put in a short 30-day plan and get started. You CAN iterate on the plan with new learnings, but don’t overthink and not get started.

2️⃣ Drop the ego! No one knows you when starting out, keep publishing.

3️⃣ Keep perfecting your craft. Prioritize your learning

4️⃣ You are procrastinating because in your head it’s a lot and you don’t know where to start.

5️⃣You are looking and comparing creators with 100s and 1000s of followers who have been creating content for some time Remember they started just like you... but built a system.

6️⃣ Don’t worry about a hot niche that can make you money. Find what you are passionate about and will get you out of bed. Money might be a good goal starting out, nothing wrong with a short-term goal but only passion will keep you going for long.

7️⃣Worry about your customers first and not your competition. Customers want to be heard.

8️⃣ Going viral shouldn’t be the goal it should rather be a by-product of consistent work. Else it can hurt your business

9️⃣ Work the platform don’t let it work you. Write one piece of content but optimize for different platforms. Learn each platform's language.

🔟 Time is money. Ruthlessly Prioritize how you spend time.

Bonus 🕚 Productivity hacks are BS. Avoid distraction and read #10 again.

That’s all for today!

Leave me a comment on this post or reply back to the email if you would like me to dive deeper into the nuances of content creation from a tech products standpoint. I read all my emails. :)
