šŸšØ Warning: Being Good at Your Job Might Be Making You Bored!

Are you bored?

Ever hit a wall where you're simply bored, unmotivated, or feeling stuck in the day-to-day grind? You're not alone.

I've been there, and I've seen it countless times in my 5+ years of coaching product folks.

Maybe you're bored because you're actually good at your job.

Surprising?

Often, boredom arises from competenceā€”you're efficient, things run smoothly, and there's little friction left to ignite your spark.

Back to being bored...(?)

Ask yourself:

  • Am I bored because I'm under-challenged, or because I'm disconnected from why I started?
  • What would happen if I intentionally introduced manageable complexity or new problems into my routine?
šŸ’”
Most leaders think motivation is about "finding passion." But what if passion isn't "found," ...But cultivated through exploration, curiosity, and continuous re-discovery?

just like many believe productivity means doing more. But what if real productivity is about doing less, but more meaningful work?

As a leadership coach, I've learned boredom often signals readiness for growth. It doesn't mean you've lost passionā€”it means you're ready for a deeper level of challenge.

Here are a few ideas for you to try this week:

  1. Try working on cross-functional initiatives or side projects that stretch your comfort zone.
  2. Have conversations with people you wouldn't normally interact with. Fresh perspectives unlock inspiration.
  3. Take a mini-break. Even a day away from routines can help you reframe your purpose.
  4. This is my favorite. Mentoring or teaching others often reveals gaps in your own understanding and reignites excitement.
  5. Work from a different locationā€”even a small shift in your workspace can spark new ideas.

This week, intentionally do one small thing differently each day.

Reflect: What shifted in your mindset? What inspiration surfaced?

Then email me back and let me know how it went.

Stay inspired!

Additional Guides in case you missed:

Last week I wrote a guide to advocate for your inclusion in key conversations and got a whopping 1540 hits and few sent me feedback like this

"Hi Nazuk! I just went through your guideā€”it's terrific. It's solid and practical advice on how to get into the conversations that matter. I especially liked the tip about getting your managerā€™s support to back you up in meetingsā€”itā€™s simple but makes total sense and especially all the scripts will now be part of my tool kit. Worth a read for anyone looking to step up their influence at work!" - Jennifer K.

"I wish I had this guide sooner. Thanks for putting it together Nazuk!" - Mira Singh
